A British supermarket had to evacuate after roof tiles began to fall in during a torrential rain storm in Rochdale.

ASDA supermarket was closed after rain began to pour inside its Rochdale store in Greater Manchester during a heavy rain storm which saw customers evacuated after tiles began to fall, potentially endangering the lives of all inside.

Video footage from within the store has circulated on social media, showing store staff panicking and calling for customers to leave the store immediately as rain water crashes in causing the roof tiles to drop to the floor, creating a very dangerous environment for both staff and customers.

A customer in the store at the time told British Humour: "I was shopping with my partner and child when we heard the rain bouncing off the roof, like when you're in a conservatory.

"Then, the rain began to pour inside the store as if there was no roof and very quickly it became a very serious situation, with roof tiles falling from about 20 meters high and crashing to the floor.

"Staff acted quickly and evacuated us all, which was a shame because I'd just picked up a custom pizza I was looking forward to having for my tea, but I guess it's safety first."
